When Acorns are in Abundance
This fall I collected a bucket of acorns. Taking about 20 I soaked them in a pot of water that was kept on a wood stove where heat was induced for about 2 weeks. The more time went on - the richer the brown became. Eventually I felt it was time to try out the colour. Before starting I removed the acorns and let the stock cool overnight. I wound a fine spun silk skein of about 50g which I de-gummed and wet out fully before using. Starting fresh in the morning I threw the silk in the pot and simmered for a few hours and then let to cool. Rinsed the silk in tempered water and let dry.
